Dhiraagu Road Race to be held next month with 4,500 runners

Dhiraagu has said that 4,500 runners have registered for the 16th Edition of the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race to be held on 24th October at Hulhumale'.

The Maldives' largest running event, the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race receives a warm welcome every year. This event has a World Athletics certified race route, with it being Maldives' only national run that is listed on the Association of International Marathon and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running Calendar. The event falls under their yearly initiative to support NGO's in protection of children's rights.

The run will see 13 associations this year. Five associations that receive the most nominations are set to receive MVR 200,000. Each registration will also net participants MVR 100 and funding for a special bib. Upon registering, runners will have the chance to nominate their favored NGO as well. Five NGOs that receive the most nominations will receive MVR 200,000 in aid as well.

This event will have a total prize pool of MVR 280,000, with the Best Male and Female Runners being chosen for each category. The prizes are as follows:

- Half Marathon

1st Place prize: MVR 25,000

2nd Place prize: MVR 15,000

3rd Place prize: MVR 10,000

- 10k and 5k Open Category

1st Place prize: MVR 10,000

2nd Place prize: MVR 8,000

3rd Place prize: MVR 6,000

- School Categories: Under-13 and Over-13

1st Place prize: MVR 5,000 voucher

2nd Place prize: MVR 3,000 voucher

3rd Place prize: MVR voucher

Champion Team: MVR 10,000

Runner-up: MVR 8,000

Second Runner-up: MVR 6,000

The official partners for this year's Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) are Island Runners Maldives, Elite Runners, Naseer Sports Academy, Saaid Sports and Legacy Fitness.

The half marathon for the run is set to start at 2:30am. The 10k run will commence at 5:30am, along with the 5k run starting at 4:30pm.
