Beijing Capital Airlines becomes first Chinese carrier to operate from Velana International’s Terminal 1

MACL also announced that two more airlines are scheduled to shift their operations to Terminal 1 this week.

Velana International Airport’s new Passenger Terminal 1 has begun serving Beijing Capital Airlines, marking the first Chinese airline to operate from the terminal and becoming the fifth airline to do so.

A ceremony was held to celebrate this milestone, attended by former CEO and Managing Director Adhil Moosa, who is currently the CEO of Treetop Hospital.

Beijing Capital Airlines officially opened its check-in counters at Terminal 1 and distributed gift bags to the 248 passengers traveling on the flight today. A ceremonial water salute was given to the airline’s inaugural flight to the terminal, JD455-6, which was welcomed with traditional cultural dances as 276 passengers disembarked.

Beijing Capital Airlines is a low-cost carrier based at Beijing Daxing International Airport.

Currently, Terminal 1 serves the Maldives’ national airline, Maldivian; UAE low-cost carrier Air Arabia; premium airline Beond; and Sri Lanka’s budget airline Fitz Air.

MACL also announced that two more airlines are scheduled to shift their operations to Terminal 1 this week.
