The 42nd General Meeting and Conference of the Asian Bankers Association (ABA) will be held in the Maldives next year, with Bank of Maldives (BML) appointed as the official host of the event.
The ABA Conference acts as an important platform for banking and finance professionals across the region to come together and discuss key challenges, industry opportunities, and the future direction of the financial sector.
The announcement of BML as host was made during the 41st ABA Conference held in Bhutan earlier this week, from Monday to Tuesday. At the same event, BML’s CEO and Managing Director, Mohamed Shareef, was appointed as Vice Chairman of ABA.
Speaking at the event, Shareef said it is an honor for BML and the Maldives to host next year’s conference.
“This is an excellent opportunity to showcase the Maldives’ strong financial sector and foster greater international collaboration. BML looks forward to welcoming the Asian banking community and providing a platform for meaningful discussions in the field,” he said.
This marks the second time BML will host the ABA Conference, the first being in 2018, when the event was also successfully held in the Maldives. BML sees the opportunity to host once again as a reflection of its growing influence and leadership within the Asian banking landscape.
The 2026 conference is expected to bring together CEOs, senior banking executives, and financial experts from ABA member countries. The event will feature panel discussions, workshops, and networking sessions focusing on key issues and innovations in the banking and financial services sector.
