Maldivians will now be able to open seller accounts on China’s leading e-commerce platform Alibaba.com, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has announced.

In a post on social media, Saeed said a workshop with Alibaba experts will be held on 16 September to guide local entrepreneurs through the process of registering, promoting and selling products on the platform.

The initiative, he said, is part of ongoing talks with Alibaba.com backed by the Chinese government and falls under efforts to deepen bilateral trade ties through the China-Maldives Free Trade Agreement.

Saeed added that the move also fulfils President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to enable Maldivians to sell goods on international online platforms.
