Maldives records 1.5 million tourist arrivals to date in 2025

As per the Daily Tourism Report shared by the Tourism Ministry, 1,520,699 tourist arrivals were recorded as of Sunday this week.

The latest Tourism Ministry statistics indicate that as of now, Maldives has welcomed over 1.5 million tourists this year. 

As per the Daily Tourism Report shared by the Tourism Ministry, 1,520,699 tourist arrivals were recorded as of Sunday this week. 

This is a 9.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year, where the figure stood at 1,386,554 arrivals. 

The average number of arrivals per day is at 6,232. 

In the first week of September, 33,733 tourist arrivals were recorded. This is a year-on-year increase of 23.6 percent. 

The leading source market so far this year remains China. Tourists from China make of 15.8 percent of tourist arrivals, with the number at 240,828 arrivals. 

China is followed by Russia, UK, Italy and Germany, with over 100,000 tourists having visited from each. 

Of all visitors this year, 73.4 percent stayed at resorts. 

Last year, Maldives, for the first time in history, marked 2 million tourist arrivals. The government aims to increase this number to 2.3 million by the end of 2025.
