Statistics have shown that service provider company costs within the past three months have gone up. This excludes water, electricity and waste management.
As per the statistics released by the Maldives Bureau of Statistics (MBS) yesterday, it stated that while utility service provisions such as water, electricity and waste management have not seen a month-by-month cost increase in the last three months, it is seeing yearly cost increases.
MBS's Producer Price Index (PPI) Report shows that utility service (water, electricity and waste management) provision costs have seen a 0.99 percent decrease in the second quarter. Electricity provision costs alone have seen a decrease of 1.34 percent. However, water provision costs have seen an increase of 0.26 percent.
The PPI Report shows that other service provisions have seen an increase when compared to last year's second quarter.
As per the Report, information technology and telecommunication services have seen increases. Even though these services saw cost changes from the beginning of last year up until October, the overall costs have gone down. However, these costs have gone up since November. Telecommunication provision costs have seen monthly fluctuations due to their promotions.
Due to those fluctuations, telecommunication provision costs see percentage changes between -6.22 percent to +2.62 percent.
From April 2024 to April 2025, November 2024 has seen the highest percentage, with it being 3.78 percent.
Another service that has seen an increase in provision costs is education. Provision costs have been increasing since April 2023, with the highest percentage being in July 2023 coming in at 15.15 percent.
As per the Report, tourism has seen a decrease compared to other services.
From April 2025 to June 2025, resort service provisions saw decreases between 2.70 percent and 26.49 percent.
