The new 10,000-tonne water storage tank in Hulhumale' has been completed and is now in use. This project is part of the Maldives Water and Sewerage Company’s (MWSC) plan to improve and maintain water supply in the Malé area.
The tank was officially opened at a ceremony held today at the MWSC Headquarters Operation Center. The event was attended by Construction and Infrastructure Minister Dr. Abdullah Muththalib, MWSC Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed, the Chairman, Board of Directors, senior management, and MWSC staff.
At 27 meters tall, this is the largest water tank ever installed in the Maldives. It began operating in September last year. With this tank, Hulhumale’s total water storage capacity has increased to 22,600 tonnes; a 79 percent increase.
Combined with Male’s storage, the total water capacity in both areas has grown from 36,000 tonnes to 46,000 tonnes. In February this year, the water pipeline on the Sinamale Bridge was temporarily connected to the main water grid, further enhancing water supply in Male' City.
MWSC continues to work on increasing water capacity and improving service quality for residents.
