National carrier Maldivian has begun inscribing the name of the Maldives—“Dhivehi Raajje”—on its aircraft in Thaana script, as part of commemorations marking the 60th anniversary of the country’s independence.

The new inscription appears beneath the national flag on the exterior of Maldivian aircraft, while the airline’s name continues to be prominently displayed in English across the fuselage.

Minister of Language and Culture Adam Naseer welcomed the initiative, calling it a meaningful step toward promoting Dhivehi language and identity. In a post on social media, the minister said, "Writing the name of Maldives in Thaana on Maldivian aircraft is a joyful milestone."

The symbolic move is part of a broader national effort to elevate cultural pride and visibility, especially during the country’s independence celebrations.
