Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have increased by 9.6 percent so far this year compared with the same period in 2023, according to figures from the Ministry of Tourism.
The country has welcomed 1.2 million tourists to date, up from 1.1 million during the same period last year.
China topped the list of source markets, with 170,000 arrivals, accounting for 14 percent of total visitors.
Russia followed with 142,000 visitors, while the UK came in third.
More than 100,000 tourists have arrived each month this year. With the exception of February and March, monthly arrivals rose by 10 percent compared to last year.
On average, 6,100 tourists visit the Maldives daily.
The country currently has a bed capacity of 64,000, with around 70 percent located in resort islands.
Maldives welcomed two million visitors in 2024, and the government is aiming for 2.2 million tourist arrivals this year.
