The Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL) is being absorbed into Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). A farewell party was held for RACL's Managing Director Ahmed Mubeen along with his employees.
Mubeen told Mihaaru that the liquidation process of RACL is being expedited, with the process set for completion within two months. All work processes will be switched over to and adopted by the MACL, Mubeen stated.
Mubeen spoke at the farewell party, expressing his gratitude to his employees, with a cake cutting ceremony on the occasion as well.
In order to streamline government company operations and to minimize spending, the government decided to merge RACL and MACL in September 2024. MACL Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed also stated earlier this year that the absorption process has been moving forward.
RACL is known to have quite a large governmental spending, with the PCB publicizing company financial accounts during the second quarter of last year. However, the financial accounts of the RACL was not publicized in this list. It's been stated that RACL had a loss of MVR 95 million in 2023.
Around MVR 35 million was spent in capital injection by the company last year by the second quarter. And in 2023, a capital injection of MVR 113 million was spent in order to get the company operations in order.
