Alia Investment Pvt Ltd has begun a training program for individuals who want to become boat operators. This program, which is the 11th of its kind, is being done in partnership with the Maldives Institute of Technology (MIT).
A ceremony was held today at Meerumaa Hotel, where the General Manager of Alia, Ahmed Saeed, emphasized the importance of such training programs.
Saeed stated that boat captains are individuals who must be familiar with the guidelines and safety regulations put forth by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation in order for a safe journey every single time. This three-day training program is set to equip individuals with the crucial knowledge to safely operate sea vessels, says Saeed.
He also said that this is a great opportunity where trainees will get to familiarize themselves with safety precautions, navigational procedures and hone their skills as boat captains.
Saeed goes on to say that even if Alia didn't have the mechanics with the know-how to train individuals when they initially considered the idea, the company now has competent trainers working at Yamaha Technical Academy as mechanics. He also stated that these trainers are quite capable, as they have experience in training individuals at the academy itself and in various parts of this Maldives, where they prioritize turning promising trainees into well-versed experts.
Colonel Ismail Naseer attended the opening ceremony of the training program as Chief Guest. He gave a speech highlighting how important a role programs that include safety procedure such as these are, due to the vast waters that puts so much distances between the islands. Preparation for dangerous situations are key he said, with training and knowledge being key factors in such situations.
He calls for interested individuals to take full advantage of this opportunity.
MIT's Director of Programs Adam Haleem expressed his gratitude towards the initiative that Alia has taken in conducting these yearly programs. He also thanked the cooperation of various agencies and the warm welcome given to the progam by the companies working in the field.
This training program will include a captain-level theory and skill acquisition class whereby trainees will learn how to operate sea vessels equipped with outboard engines. They will also be taught important details to keep an eye on while operating a sea vessel, along with knowledge on navigational charts, safety protocols and emergency medical procedures should any passenger face an emergency.
Fire safety and emergency fire procedures will also be taught, alongside how to properly maintain and problem-solve any issues captains may face concerning their outboard engines.
While this program has been announced, Alia Investment Pvt Ltd has also partnered with Yamaha Japan's Technical Academy to conduct a Yamaha Technical Training program sometime this year.
Alia is the authorized distributor of the popular Yamaha engines in Maldives. The company also holds various similar trainings in collaboration with Yamaha.
