Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has dismissed Idham Hussain from her position as an advisor to the board.
The central bank has not disclosed the reason for her dismissal.
Idham was removed from her post earlier today. She had been serving as an advisor to the Monetary Policy, Research, and Statistics section of the MMA.
Prior to this, she held the position of Assistant Governor, heading the same department.
Significant structural changes have taken place at the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) following the appointment of the new Governor, Ahmed Munavvar. These changes included shifts in key leadership roles, among which Mariyam Rashfa has been appointed as the Managing Director of the Monetary Policy section.
According to information received by Mihaaru news, Idham was removed from her position around the time Rashfa was appointed as head of the Monetary Policy Department. It is believed that Rashfa may be appointed as advisor to the board, although an official announcement has not yet been made.
Idham Hussain is the sister-in-law of former President Dr Mohamed Waheed’s wife, Ilham Hussain. She has served in various roles at MMA since 1990.
Her dismissal comes at a time when the MMA board is undergoing broader changes. In March, three board members resigned over concerns with recent decisions made within the institution.
