The government received MVR 16.7 billion in revenue during the first four months of 2025, according to Finance Ministry.

Taxation remained the largest contributor, with MVR 13 billion collected. Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST) was the single largest source, bringing in MVR 5.6 billion. General GST accounted for MVR 2.2 billion, while business and property taxes brought in MVR 2 billion.

Other significant sources included import duties at MVR 1.2 billion and green tax at MVR 1 billion. The government also received MVR 100 million in free aid.

Revenue during the January–April period was up by six percent, or approximately MVR 1 billion, compared to the same period in 2024, when MVR 15.7 billion was collected.

The government has projected total revenue of MVR 39.7 billion for the year. The MVR 16.7 billion collected so far represents 42 per cent of the forecast.

Total expenditure by the end of April stood at MVR 20 billion. Of this, MVR 15.5 billion was spent on government operations, salaries, and administrative costs, while only MVR 1.5 billion or nine percent was spent on development projects.
