Sh. Funadhoo Airport is temporarily shut down due to the breakdown of its fire vehicle.
With the airport closed, Maldivian diverted their scheduled flight to Funadhoo today to N. Maafaru. Island Aviation Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas said that the airline had made arrangements for those travelling to Funadhoo to continue on to the island via sea.
Maldivian announced this via social media as well. Iyas said that flights had been diverted to a technical issue at the Funadhoo Airport, with a date of resumption unknown as of yet.
Mihaaru News reports that the airport had been shut down due to damage to the airport's fire truck. The same happened in October last year, with the airport having been shut down then as well.
Maldivian conducts three flights per week to Funadhoo, on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Funadhoo Airport was first brought into operation in 2020. The airport, managed by Regional Airports, has a 1,200 meter long runway, with a width of 30 meters. The taxiway is 90 meters, with the apron being 50 meters wide. The length of the apron is 150 meters.
