Maldivian’s Airbus A330 has carried over 40,000 passengers since its introduction in January, the airline’s Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas said today.
Speaking at the Aviation Forum held at Hulhule’ Island Hotel, Iyas highlighted the national airline’s expansion strategy and said the A330 wide-body aircraft has played a key role in extending Maldivian’s international reach, particularly to major source markets for Maldives tourism.
“In the past four months, we have carried more than 40,000 passengers and 400 tonnes of cargo,” Iyas stated.
The aircraft currently operates weekly flights to three cities in China.
The A330, with a capacity of 260 passengers across business, premium economy, and economy classes, is equipped for long-haul travel without the need for stopovers.
Iyas also said that Maldivian is working on acquiring a second A330, which will be deployed to serve new European destinations.
