Dhiraagu 'Male' Open' swimming competition receives huge support

Dhiraagu has successfully concluded the Male' Open 2025 swimming competition.

This was the largest open water swimming competition held in the Maldives. The competition, catering to all age groups, was held last Saturday.

World renowned swimmer Adam Walker participated in the event, sharing his experiences and encouragement with participants.

Dhiraagu said that 350 swimmers had participated in the event, with over 340 of them completing the race.

Dhiraagu said that the Male' Open 2025 had been held to promote open water swimming in the Maldives and to advocate and raise awareness of protecting Maldivian seas.

The competition saw participants aged from 5 to 65 years. Additionally, 13 swimmers from the Maldives' Special Olympics Swimming Squad and swimmers from the Paralympic Swimming Team participated in the event.

The competition was held in two categories: competitive 1km category and non-competitive 250 meter category designed for new swimmers and children under 10 years of age.

Ibrahim Yuan Shameem won the Men's Category in the 10 to 12 age group. Second place went to Meekail Lael Abdul Aleem and third to Numan Mohamed Naseef. In the 10 to 12 age group's Women's Category, first place went to Mariyam Aira Shirmeel, with second place going to Ayesha Zayah Hussain and third to Ashya Ailiya Nazim.

In the 13 to 14 age group, the Men's Category saw Ismail Haam Hussain clinch first place, with Mohamed Alyan Shifan coming second, and Ibrahim Joodh Hussain in third place. In the Women's Category in the same age bracket, Alya Ashraf won first place, with Mariyam Meesam Niyaz taking second and Dhaliya Aida Latheef taking third.

The 15 to 19 age group's Men's Category saw Ifzal Ibrahim Mahfooz winning first, followed by Looth Mohamed Hussain taking second place, and Yoosuf Ziyan Zahid taking third. The Women's Category in this age group saw Ayana Areef emerging as winner, with Aishath Aleena Shahid being the runner up and Laiba Hassan Manik named second runner up.

The 20 to 29 age group's Men's Category saw Mubal Azzam Ibrahim win first place. Shavi Rafiu won second. The 30 to 39 age category's first place winner was Mohamed Amir, followed by Minwal Ibrahim in second place and Abdulla Abdul Raheem in third.

The 40 to 49 age category saw Adam Areef emerge as winner, with Hussain Ilham coming second and Ahmed Firas Afeef coming third. In the 50+ category, Hussain Riyaz won first place, with AbduShukoor at second and Ahmed Niyaz at third.

Best Male Swimmer went to Mubal Azzam Ibrahim, with Ifzal Ibrahim Mahfooz coming second, and Looth Mohamed Hussain coming third.

Best Female Swimmer was Ayana Areef, with second place going to Aishath Aleena Shahid and third to Laiba Hassan Manik.
