Bank of Maldives (BML) has increased the debit card limit for Hajj pilgrims to USD 2,000 this year, following a request from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The revised limit includes an additional USD 1,750 specifically allocated for pilgrims, on top of the existing monthly limit of USD 250.
BML also announced that, as in previous years, the bank will continue to sell USD 500 in cash to each pilgrim departing Maldives.
To facilitate this, the increased debit card limit will be activated once the Hajj Corporation submits the official list of pilgrims to the bank. Pilgrims will be notified via SMS when the changes are made to their cards.
During Ramadan last year, BML allocated an extra USD 1,500 for Umrah pilgrims' debit cards. A total of 1,300 pilgrims conducted nearly 9,000 transactions, with the bank disbursing more than USD 1 million at the official exchange rate.
