President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has requested Bank of Maldives (BML) to increase the dollar limit on debit cards for this year’s Hajj pilgrims to USD 2,000.

In a post on X, President Muizzu stated that he had asked BML to allocate an additional USD 1,750 to each pilgrim’s debit card on top of the current official limit of USD 250.

This would allow pilgrims to access dollars at the official exchange rate, easing their financial transactions during the pilgrimage.

Previously, BML had raised the debit card limit to USD 1,500 for pilgrims travelling during Ramadan and Shawwal, in addition to the standard USD 250.

Saudi Arabia has allocated 1,000 Hajj quotas to Maldives this year.
