Parliament's Public Accounts Committee has held today's meeting regarding corruption within Police welfare corporation, POLCO, closed as well, this time meeting former senior officials of POLCO.

Chair of the sub-committee and Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim said that today's meeting, too, had been closed for the same reasons as yesterday's meeting with current POLCO heads.

He said that like yesterday, ACC's officials joined today's meeting as well as observers.

The sub-committee of the Public Accounts Committee formed to review the POLCO corruption case is also looking into possible measures that can be taken. In last week's meeting, it was decided to propose that goods and property bought with the proceeds of corruption within the construction of POLCO flats be seized by the State.

An audit report issued by the Auditor General's Office states that the POLCO flats in Hulhumale' Phase 1 has to date had MVR 1 billion spent on the project, with it having been conducted in a way that will benefit specific persons. They further said that the project was run at a loss of MVR 355 million.

The audit report, conducted on Blues Housing Project in June 23, 2013, states that as of now, MVR 1.06 billion has been spent on the project, with current costs amounting to twice the actual project cost.
