Appeal to increase foreign employees in resorts to 70 percent

The current policy allows 55 percent of resort employees to be foreigners. Despite this regulation, instances where the number of foreign workers in resorts exceeds this stipulated ratio.

The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) has appealed to the Ministry of Tourism to increase the percentage of foreign employees working in resorts to 70 percent.

The Tourism Ministry said that MATI has requested an increase in the percentage of foreign employees to 70 percent while decreasing the number of local employees in the tourism sector to 30 percent. The Ministry further added that they are in discussions with the Higher Education Ministry to determine the change to the ratio of local employees.
