Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race: A Single-use Plastic-Free Event

Dhiraagu is an organization committed to converting numerous events into eco-conscious, plastic-free initiatives, as an integral component of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. The initiative is designed to cultivate an eco- friendly community while championing sustainable practices. Beginning with the inception of the 'Care for the Oceans' campaign in 2016, Dhiraagu has undertaken the gradual elimination of single-use plastics, not only within their offices but also at the forefront of their events. The upcoming Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race exemplifies this dedication to eradicating single-use plastics from the event's operations.

For the convenience of runners, Dhiraagu has established dedicated hydration stations every kilometer along the race route, where water is provided to participants on eco-friendly paper cups. There will be stations to refill bottles in at the event site as well.

Beyond this particular event, many of Dhiraagu's organized activities are environmentally conscious. Last year's Mamen Cycling Championship, for instance, was powered entirely by solar energy, marking a significant step towards sustainable sporting events in the Maldives.

The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race has gained international recognition as a globally renowned event. In 2018, it not only championed social causes but also secured a spot in the top three of the International Social Awards presented by the Association of International Marathons and Distance (AIMS).
