Maldives National Party (MNP) leader and presidential candidate Mohamed Nazim has appointed Dr. Ahmed Adeel Naseer as his running mate.

Nazim, who is also the MP for Dhangethi constituency, is set to formally announce the decision on Saturday evening during a ceremony at Billabong High International.

Dr. Adeel, a resident of Addu Atoll, previously served as the principal of Addu City Sharafuddin School. He earned his Doctorate in School Management and has since held positions in various schools across the Maldives, including Addu High School, Medhuvalu School, Seenu Atoll Education Center, and Addu Islamiyya School.

In addition to his role as a prominent figure in the education sector, Dr. Adeel also took an independent stance in politics by running for the South-Hithadhoo constituency in the 2019 elections. However, he faced defeat in the hands of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate Ibrahim Nazil.

As the presidential election on September 9 approaches, it is clear that many candidates are actively seeking support from Addu City.

While Nazim has chosen an Addu City resident as his running mate, the MDP presidential candidate and incumbent president, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, has selected North-Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Aslam as his running mate.

Additionally, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed led The Democrats announced Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb as the party’s presidential candidate.
