The luxury hotelier brand from Malta, Corinthia has commenced the development of its first property in the Maldives.
The new resort is being developed in a lagoon within the Malé atoll by Maarah Private Limited, a Maldivian company under Dubai-based Maarah Holdings Limited, with Nero Investment Group from Romania holding stakes in the company.
A total of 73 luxury suites or villas will be developed on the property, which involves reclaiming two islands from the lagoon. The larger of the two islands will accommodate villas designed for families and traveler groups, while the smaller island will be developed as a private island.
The land reclamation for the resort was carried out by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
Corinthia, a renowned luxury hotelier, boasts an impressive property portfolio with operational hotels in several popular international cities including London, Lisbon, Rome, Doha, New York, Riyadh, and Brussels.
As part of Corinthia's health and fitness vision, the resort plans to develop a wellness center, offering guests a range of wellness facilities and services. In addition to the wellness center, the resort will feature five restaurants, providing guests with a variety of dining options. The design of the villas will draw inspiration from the natural underwater wildlife found in the Maldives, with the roofing taking the shape of manta rays, which are commonly sighted in the Maldivian waters.
Speaking about the company’s portfolio expansion, Corinthia’s Chief Executive Officer Simon Naudi said that it was a great honor to develop a property in the Maldives. He also assured that the new property will feature distinctive qualities that will set it apart from others upon its completion.
The new Corinthia property is located approximately 15 minutes away from Velana International Airport (VIA) by speedboat. The property is expected to officially open in 2025.
