Eight members of the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) holding government positions have resigned from the party, citing that the party's spirit is at odds with the government.

In a letter addressed to the party, the members stated that the MRM was founded under the guidance of Maumoon, but that his principles and philosophies have faded and the party has become a tool for accomplishing certain objectives.

The letter also stated that while the MRM has played significant roles in the government, some of its members have recently been working against President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration.

Members who resigned from the party

- Mohamed Faisal - Deputy Ambassador of the UAE

- Thazmeel Abdul Samad - Managing Director, Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC)

- Mohamed Raid - Managing Director, Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC)

- Abdul Hameed Ahmed - Senior Executive Director

- Shazail Siyam - Managing Director, Maldives Gas

- Ibrahim Farhad - Senior Policy Director, Ministry of Tourism

- Ismail Naail Nasheed - Director Communications, Ministry of Arts Culture and Heritage

- Hassan Hayyan Ahmed - MRM Exco Member

According to the letter, MRM President Ahmed Farish Maumoon has been repeatedly asked to clarify the party's stance regarding the upcoming presidential election.

However, the letter goes on to state that there has been a recent trend of criticizing, mocking, and insulting MRM members in the government.

The letter also said that MRM member Aminath Nadhira's participation in Dr. Mohamed Munavvar's press conference with the opposition in the Chagos case was seen as an attempt to align with those who have been accused of corruption and other atrocities.

As a result of these concerns, the members have decided to resign from the party and pledge their support to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in the upcoming presidential election, according to the letter.
