Over 350,000 tourists arrived in the Maldives within the first two months of this year, the Ministry of Tourism has revealed.

According to the ministry's statistics, the number of tourists visiting the Maldives increased by 25 percent compared to the same period last year.

February saw the highest number of arrivals since the beginning of the year, with 177,000 tourists visiting the Maldives. In February last year, the Maldives observed 149,000 arrivals. In the first two months of 2022, a total of 280,000 tourists visited the country.

The increase in arrivals is likely due to the large number of tourists visiting from China and Russia.

Last month, Russia was the strongest source market for the Maldives. There were approximately 44,000 tourist arrivals from Russia. The second-largest number of tourists came from India with 38,000, followed by the UK with 32,000.

Other top markets include Italy, France, Germany, the US, Poland, and Switzerland.

The past two months have seen an average of 6,000 tourist arrivals per day.

The government aims to reach a goal of 1.8 million tourist arrivals this year.
