Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has begun using virtual reality (VR) technology in their airport ramp trainings.

MACL’s media official, Shamman Shakir confirms it has begun using VR technology to facilitate regulatory trainings for airside employees allowing for better comprehensive learning experience.

Noting the company's continuous efforts for the growth and development of its employees using modern innovations, Shmman said MACL is using International Air Transport Association (IATA) issued Ramp-VR in their trainings.

A total of 18 MACL employees received new Ramp-VR training on December 4, 2022. Training specifics included ramp marshalling, aircraft landing and taxiing.

“Through live simulation, employees will learn operational conduct within their work environment,” Shamman said.

Previously, trainings had hindered operational works at MACL, which will now be resolved through the incorporation of VR technology, he said.

MACL General Manager Ali Saeed noted VR technology in staff training will comparatively reduce their training hours.

Speaking about the prospect of VR training for MACL staff, Saeed further added, “We have plans to hold customized trainings for our staff. We will facilitate VR experience through renderings of Velana International Airport”.
