State Trading Organization's (STO) People Choice commences a new campaign of awarding gifts for shoppers with environmental conscience.
The new campaign "Plastic noon Gotheh Rewards" (Alternatives to Plastic) was launched at People's Choice on Tuesday.
In a statement made by STO on Twitter, the new reusable bags-centric campaign is initiated in collaboration with the Maldives Authentic Crafts Cooperative Society and Dhiraagu.
Under the campaign, the collaborators will advocate for alternatives to single-use plastic bags in the community.
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Hussain Amr, Managing Director of STO affirmed on the continued stance by the state-owned enterprise in its advocacy for alternatives to single-use plastic bags.
In 2021, STO had dropped usage of single-use plastic bags in all of its pharmacy units, a step because of which Mr. Amr claimed over 1 million single use plastic bags were avoided from utilization.
Moreover, STO reports that a total of 500 fabric bags to consumers as part of the reusable bags initiative.
STO confirmed that consumers who shop from People's Choice outlets using their trademarked bags will grant points through a special mobile application.
The points will transition into rewards after it meets specific targets, which then in turn can be redeemed for gifts.
