Aeroflot express interest in restarting Maldives operations

The Russian flagship carrier, Aeroflot has reportedly expressed interest in restarting their flight operations to the Maldives.

Earlier, Aeroflot put a halt on its international flight operations, except for Belarus, after the Russian civil aviation authority strongly urged the airline to do so.

The authority was concerned about the possibility of foreign-leased aircraft used by Aeroflot being impounded in West-allied destinations.

Meanwhile, Aeroflot has expressed its interest in resuming the flight operations to the Maldives at a time when it has confirmed on restarting operations to the neighboring Sri Lanka.

The airline is expected to resume its Sri Lankan flight operations sometime in April 2022.

Furthermore, local reports also claim that the airline made requests to the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority to open discussion window for the possible resumption of Aeroflot's operations.

However, as of now it is unconfirmed whether the Civil Aviation Authority had complied nor has the authority commented on the matter publicly.

At the time the airline's decision of stopping international operations came to pass, Aeroflot was carrying close to 300 or more passengers to the Maldives on a daily basis.
