Ooredoo Maldives appointed Hassan Saajin, locally renowned by the monikor 'Zuvaan Masveriya' (the young fisherman), as its new Brand Ambassador this Wednesday.

The telecom giant will collaborate with Saajin to raise awareness about the modern fisheries industry and opportunities for young fishermen. Ooredoo stated it will also work with Saajin to provide digital solutions for the current concerns of the fishing community.

Born to Gemanafushi, Gaafu Alif Atoll, the 21-year-old Saajin developed his love of fishing at a young age, and has since established himself as a popular 'young fisherman', spreading awareness about the industry, advocating against the challenges faced by the fishing community, and encouraging younger generations to enter the field. He has also registered his own foundation 'Dhivehi Masverin' (Maldivian Fishermen), and shares his life as a fisherman on his locally popular social media channels.

Welcoming the new brand ambassador, Ooredoo Maldives' Chief Commercial Officer Hussain Niyaz said, "Fishing is the second largest industry in the Maldives and has been one of the finest traditions of the Maldivian culture for as long as we can remember. Saajin has been doing exemplary in work in trying to revive this tradition and instill the love for fishing among the young people in our community. As we share the strong belief of uniting and building our communities, we are excited to welcome Saajin on-board as a brand ambassador to work together and create new opportunities for young and aspiring fishermen in the Maldives".

“I am very happy to partner with Ooredoo, an inspiring brand that has greatly supported the fisheries industry of the Maldives and continues working with the authorities to enable fishermen with new and improved opportunities. I would like to thank Ooredoo for the opportunity and I am very excited to kick start our collaborations", added Saajin.

Ooredoo Maldives has made notable contributions to the local fisheries industry, including partnering with Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture to install vessel locating devices on local fishing vessels, and collaborating with Thuraya Telecommunications to provide mobile satellite services. Ooredoo also introduced a special data package for fishermen, 'Masveringe Package'.

The company assured that it will continue to support the fisheries industry of Maldives with its new brand ambassador and existing partners.
