Maldives partakes in Finland's largest travel and trade fair

Maldives participated in the largest travel and trade fair hosted by Finland, Matka Expo 2020.

The three-day event held in Finland's capital Helsinki will continue from 16 to 19 January.

A total of seven companies from the Maldivian tourism industry is taking part in the expo in addition to Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Cooperation (MMPRC).

According to MMPRC, the Matka Expo will provide a platform for top officials from the industry to meet with their Northern European counterparts.

Moreover, the corporation stated that promotional videos and information will be shared with media companies in the region.

A 60 square feet stand is set up at the expo, showcasing the tropical scenery of Maldives, with free samples of traditional delicacies such as 'Kudhi Gulha' (fried fish balls) and 'Bondi Bai' (sweet rice).

Visitors can also participate in a social media competition where one lucky winner will be awarded a free stay in the archipelago as well.

This year, a total of 935 exhibitors from 90 countries are reportedly taking part in the travel and trade fair and will be providing information on their services.

In 2019, Maldives saw a record number of arrivals at 1.7 million visiting tourists amongst which 57,370 were from Nothern European countries. As such, MMPRC has affirmed that the aforementioned region is considered an important target market this year as well.
