Local aviation giant Mega Maldives Airlines has commenced ticket sales to begin operations to Indian capital New Delhi on November 14.

In a statement, Mega Maldives said it will conduct three weekly direct flights to New Delhi on every Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

The airlines will conduct its flights to Delhi in its recently acquired Boeing 737-800 aircraft featuring 12 business class seats and 156 economy class seats. The return fare is USD 389 (MVR 5998.38) while a one-way ticket costs USD 234.5 (MVR 3615.99).

Currently the only local carrier operating from the Maldives to the South Asian neighbour is the national airline Maldivian, which conducts flights to Trivandrum and Chennai. Meanwhile, India’s national carrier Air India and a number of other private airlines operate regulate flights between Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) and some Indian cities including Bangalore and Cochin.

While Mega Maldives is preparing to commence flights to New Delhi, the number of tourists from India to the Maldives has been inclining with a 25 percent increase in arrivals from India so far this year compared to 2015.

Mega Maldives is also planning to commence flights to Sri Lankan capital Colombo next month.
