Local airline Flyme announced plans to commence the provision of commercial seaplane services to resorts.
An official from the airline operated by Villa Air stated that four aircrafts from the Twin Otter 300 series will arrive in Maldives by October 2019.
Flyme publicized a model of the seaplanes which are to commence services. The aircraft's innovative design was inspired by the national animal, the Yellowfin Tuna, a species of tuna which is widely caught and consumed throughout Maldives.
Flyme will begin the operations once the seaplane terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) is completed.
The main providers of seaplane services in the country are Maldivian, Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) and Manta Air. Among the local airlines, TMA boasts the world's largest seaplane fleet.
