Team Buoy by Milaidhoo, Baa Atoll, on Wednesday won the 10th season of Ooredoo Masrace, the annual fishing tournament by telecommunications giant Ooredoo Maldives.

The team donated their cash prize of MVR 50,000 to Kudakudhinge Hiyaa.

A number of special awards were given out after a competitive grand finale featuring Team Buoy, STELCO Women, STELCO Men and Team Velassaru:

Champion Team: Team Buoy by Milaidhoo

Award: Cash Prize of MVR 50,000,

Biggest Catch: Ameen from Team Velassaru, for catching a 7.20 Kg Kalhu oh Faana

Award: Cash Prize of MVR 5,000

Best Fisherman: Shiyaz from Team DSC (Dhivehi Sifainge Club) with 24 Fishes

Awarded: Cash Prize of MVR 5,000 and “Rann Koari”

Best Fisherwomen: Ameena from STELCO Women’s Team with 11 Fishes

Awarded: Cash Prize of MVR 5,000 and “Rann Koari”

Team Buoy won Ooredoo Masrace 2019 with 539.65 points, while STELCO Men became the runner-ups with 205.85 points, and STELCO Women received third place with 95.25 points.

The grand finale also celebrated Eid al Fitr, and was joined by the Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Zaha Waheed, CEO of VTV, Mohamed Asif and the Executive Management team of Ooredoo Maldives.

Director of Sales and Brand at Ooredoo Maldives Hussain Niyaz said, “We greatly enjoyed the tenth season of Ooredoo Masrace, which aims to create a love of fishing within our community, and especially among young people. Warm thanks to all the participants and supporters that have made this an unforgettable tournament. Congratulations to Team Buoy for their impressive win, and to all the winners of Ooredoo Masrace 2019”.

Sixteen teams including government institutions and major corporates participated in this year’s Ooredoo Masrace. As a 10th anniversary special that encouraged more women to participate in the fisheries industry, Ooredoo also hosted a special round just for women teams.
