Velana International Airport (VIA) carried 73,200 tonnes of air cargo within the previous year.
The airport carried an amount of 67,200 tonnes during 2017, thereby last year showed an eight percent increase in the amount throughput.
According to the calculations of the National Bureau of Statistics, the most amount of cargo throughput by VIA is in unloading from incoming planes to Maldives. This amounts to 45,000 tonnes of cargo.
Cargo exported from Maldives amounts to 13,000 tonnes, and the most amount of cargo exported was in the months of November and December, whereas the least amount of cargo throughput was in July.
In addition to VIA, Gan International Airport throughput 1,600 kilograms of cargo. The southernmost airport carried the most amount of cargo in December, whereas the least was carried in October.
