Local telecommunications giant Dhiraagu, has broadened services for its electronic wallet and mobile pay system, 'Dhiraagu Pay', to encompass the local market.
According to Dhiraagu's Assistant Manager Advertising and Events Hassan Shahir, only a single stall at the local market currently accepts the mobile system, and is part of Dhiraagu's efforts to establish a Digital Maldives.
Additionally, Dhiraagu introduced a special promotion with Dhiraagu Pay, in which customers who make purchases over MVR 150 will receive 1kg of watermelon.
Watermelon was chosen for the promotion as it is a Maldivian speciality during the ongoing Islamic fasting month of Ramadan.
Dhiraagu's Product Manager Mobile and Digital Commerce Mohamed Nahushan stated that the secure digital platform can be utilized for small transactions.
Nahushan, while explaining the process of making a purchase through the app, stated that customers may simply scan the QR code of a product in order to purchase it.
The stall's owner affirmed his beliefs that customers will seek the new service, paving the way for cashless transactions.
Dhiraagu currently offers multiple promotions for 'Dhiraagu Pay' in locations such as Hulhule Island Hotel (HIH), GG's Kitchen and Bistro, Olive Garden and more.
There are over 170 merchants and 60 agents currently accepting the digital wallet.
