Statistics publicised by the Ministry of Finance reveal that the state received MVR 547 million from Airport Development Charge (ADC) in the year 2019.

According to the weekly financial reports released by the ministry, the largest revenue, excluding those generated by taxes, was produced by ADC.

ADC was estimated to generate a total amount of MVR 1.3 billion in 2019. Therefore, the state received about 42 percent of the estimated revenue from airport development charges within the first three months.

ADC is taken from each passenger departing Maldives from any airport in the country. Maldivians have to pay an ADC fee of USD 12, while foreigners are charged USD 25 per passenger.

Excluding ADC, the largest revenue was generated from leasing resorts. Resort lease incomes generated MVR 459 million.

Moreover, the tax revenue of the year 2019 totals up to MVR 5.2 billion. MVR 1.4 billion was generated excluding all kinds of tax, and 39 percent of this revenue was from ADC only.

This year's budget estimated a total income of MVR 23 billion out of which MVR 7 billion has been generated till date.
