Travel and tourism continue to boom and expand despite the trying times, and with each passing week more and more countries are attempting to push ahead towards tourism growth and sustainability. This week, we are looking at some of the major travel and tourism related updates from around the globe that are news worthy and perhaps, even worth your glance as well.

Spain to launch their very own digital nomad visa

Since the global outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, remote working and digital nomad culture have found a popular reemergence which, many industry analysts and experts coincide is here to stay on a permanent basis. Meaning that digital nomad culture has now found mainstream success and is becoming a professional and social norm.

One of the major countries to witness the potentiality in this growing tourism niche is Spain, which had announced that it will be introducing digital nomad visa that allows workers to stay in the country for a maximum of 12 months.

Furthermore, the visa duration is applicable for an extension twice as per Spanish regulations and the new law is part of the Startup Act of the European nation. As such more than 30 Spanish towns and villages have joined the Red Nacional de Pueblos Accogedores para el Teletrabajo (National Network of Welcoming Villages for Remote Workers) in a bid to encourage digital nomads to visit.

Philippines set to reopen their borders welcoming international travelers

According to the latest travel updates, the government of Philippines will officially be lifting restrictions on international arrivals to the country. Moreover, from 10th February 2022 onward tourists will no longer need to quarantine upon arrival as long as they possess a negative PCR test result taken no more than 48 hours before departure from country of origin.

Travelers from visa-free countries are subjected to show their return tickets and valid passports with a validity period of at least another six months. Tourists are also required to carry proof of vaccination in the form of a digital Covid-19 certificate.

Insect infestations ground places from taking off, BA in woes

A recent report had shed light on insect infestations in several aircraft in the United Kingdom last year. The report that had come out recently in 2022 notes that at least eight planes were unable to take off from London’s Heathrow airport last July due to wasp and bee nests blocking ‘pitot probes’ which are studded tubes used to measure airplane speed.

The report also claims that seven out of the eight grounded planes belonged to British Airways with the remaining plane belonging to Virgin Atlantic as corroborated by Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AIIB).

Since 2020, following the Covid-19 global outbreak, Jools Sampson the 53-year-old owner of Reclaim Yourself, one of the leading bespoke wellness retreat companies in the United Kingdom, has been offering free retreats to front-line workers.

It was reported that beautiful and serene venues such as the Tofte Manor in the Bedfordshire which normally would charge significantly for commercial stays waived off their fees. In addition to this, Sampson’s team had reportedly volunteered their services in order to ensure the front-line medics received some well-deserved time-outs.

Rwanda – the sixth safest country in the world for solo travelers

The ranking was created by Usebounce, a luggage storage application by combining a crime index and a safety index to evaluate places where solo travelers will feel the safest. Usebounce made the indexes using data collected from Numbeo.

The list of ten safest places for solo travelers to visit included Switzerland ranking the top spot while apart from Rwanda the other countries that were included in the top-ten spots are; Slovenia, Georgia, Iceland, Croatia, Czechia, Austria and Denmark.

“Rwanda has invested much effort in its national security, by building competent and professional security organs,” the survey attested.
