The two nominees at the top of the list submitted by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for Broadcasting Commission membership has slid down on the list following interviews conducted by the Parliament's Committee on Independent Institutions.

With the term of two members ending, 12 individuals applied for the vacant posts last month.

President Muizzu submitted a list to parliament listing the names in order of preference. Topmost on the list were former MP Mohamed Abdulla (Mohamma) and former Spokesperson of the President's Office during President Abdulla Yameen's administration, Ibrahim Muaz Ali.

The report issued by the committee after conducting interviews with the nominees show that now, with 89 marks, former Broadcom member Aminath Sarahath Izzath is leading the list.

The second highest marks, at 79, were granted to Shifza Musthafa, who has years of experience as a TV presenter.

Mohamed Abdulla is now third on the list with 79 marks. Fourth on the list is Shimla Ahmed, who works as a journalist, with 77 marks.

Muaz received 68 marks after interview.

As the committee deems those who received marks above 75 eligible for the posts, Muaz is now off the list.

An extraordinary sitting of the Parliament will be held on Thursday to vote on the matter.
