Minister Ghassan pledged that the armed forces would continue to protect Maldives' independence as long as the military exists.
Defense Minister Ghassan Maumoon stated that it is time to demonstrate to the world the loyalty of the Maldivian military to the nation.
Speaking at an official Victory Day ceremony, Ghassan emphasized that the day serves as a moment for reflection.
He highlighted the need to utilize and enhance modern facilities, asserting that now is the time to show the world that the Maldivian military stands committed to the country.
Ghassan pledged that the armed forces would continue to protect Maldives' independence as long as the military exists.
".. Prepared to sacrifice my life to safeguard the sovereignty and independence of the country," he said.
Victory Day is marked annually on November 3 on the anniversary of the day Maldives achieved victory over the attempted invasion by Abdulla Luthfee, H. Haajaraa, and Ahmed Nasir, Parisholiday, S. Hithadhoo in collusion with Sri Lankan tamils on November 3, 1988.
Ghassan noted that the 1988 attack served as a critical reminder for the military to bolster its capabilities.
"Efforts began following the attack, yet progress stagnated for two decades. Now, 15 years after that, the initiative has been revitalized with renewed enthusiasm and commitment," he said.
Minister Ghassan expressed gratitude to the Commander-in-Chief of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, for his dedication to strengthening military capabilities.
