Maldives signs with China's Fujian province to train sports medicine specialists

Maldives' Sports Ministry signed the MoU with Fujian's Sports Bureau to strengthen the local sports industry.

Maldives' Ministry of Sports yesterday signed an MoU with the Sports Bureau of Fujian Province to train Maldivians in the field of sports medicine and for mutual cooperation in other fields of sports.

The most specific area of ​​the agreement includes training of sports technical personnel, especially sports medicine specialists and anti doping officers.

The signing ceremony was held at Hulhulé Island Hotel where Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu signed the agreement on Maldvies' behalf. Speaking after the signing ceremony, the minister said that this was the beginning of sports development and strengthening of mutual friendship between both countries.

"Through this partnership, we will focus on key areas such as sports medicine, anti-doping initiatives, athlete training programmes, and sports infrastructure development,” Rafiu said.

The Sports Ministry said individual athletes as well as teams will also receive assistance from Fujian Province.

Rafiu also said the implementation of Maldives' Sports Development Plan has already begun with the aim to secure an Olympic medal in the 2040 games.

Rafiu described the agreement signed with Fujian Province as an important step forward for Maldives' sports.
