A large number of people participated in last night’s demonstration, voicing concerns over the investigation. At one point, demonstrators entered the Holhudhoo police station and called for the arrest of Zakiyya’s husband and three other family members.
"Our patience has run out. Justice is not being served. She was killed deliberately. Even if the police use pepper spray on us, we [residents of Holhudhoo] will not be silenced," the protesters called.
In a press conference held last December, Police Chief Inspector Mohamed Samih stated that, according to the hospital, Zakiyya's cause of death was injuries to her neck. She sustained three deep wounds on the right side of her neck, two on the left, and a shallow wound in the middle.
However, Samih said that police have found no evidence suggesting the injuries were inflicted by another person.
"There is no evidence that it happened by anyone's actions," he said.
