Ruling People's National Congress (PNC) Chairperson and Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla has credited the rising number of the party's membership to 'nearly 100,000' to the soundness of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's policies.

Speaking to media after PNC's internal elections, Abdul Raheem said that the President had previously said he wished to see the party's membership reach 75,000 by the time the administration reached one year in office. He said that party representatives had travelled to islands across the country and conducted many work.

"Now there are people who joined the party willingly because they wanted to. There will always be doubt in the hearts of opponents, they will criticize as well. You should be in politics knowing that there will be criticism," he said.

Abdul Raheem noted that PNC had achieved huge success within a short period of time. He recalled how the party had about 3000 members last year on November 17, but had risen to nearly 100,000 now due to President Muizzu's foresight.

"It is not PNC's ideology to gain members through buying membership. We ran energetic membership drives. We did not give away money for that. We traveled to islands as well. We worked for three, four days in Male' and in atolls, and the result is people accepting the President's policies," he said.

While Abdul Raheem states that party membership is close to 100,000, the Elections Commission register currently shows PNC's membership at 28,983.

However, Abdul Raheem said that the number of valid forms at PNC's offices come up to 97,000 now. He said that as only a small number is then needed to reach a 100,000, he believes the current number will be significantly increased once the pending forms are processed.
