On his trip to India to promote Maldives' tourism, Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal has met with renowned Bollywood Producer and Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
Faisal had travelled to India to inaugurate the 'Welcome India' road show to promote tourism held in India's capital New Delhi. He also visited India's film city Mumbai during this trip.
Some of Chopra's productions include 'Munna Bhai', 'Three Idiots', 'PK', and 'Sanju', brought under the umbrella of his own production house Vinod Chopra Films.
His most well known work include 1989's 'Parinda', 1994's '1942: A love story', and 2000's 'Mission Kashmir'.
Vinod, 71 years of age, won India's National Film Award on four different occasions, as well as ten Film Fair Awards. He was also nominated for an Oscar Award for the 1978 documentary 'An Encounter with Faces'.
His latest popular production is '12th Fail', released last year.
Minister Faisal is in India for the Welcome Maldives roadshow. With the number of tourist arrivals from India having decreased this year, the government is organizing many activities to better promote Maldives' tourism in India.
Last year, India was on the top of the list of tourist arrivals to Maldives, with over 200,000 visitors. However, so far this year, only 71,000 Indian tourists have travelled to Maldives. Currently, India is sixth on the list of countries from which the most tourist arrivals are welcomed.
Last month, it was announced that three key road shows will be held in India by Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), Guest House Association, and Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). These road shows will be held in Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi.
