Speaking about the meeting, Minister Faisal said that the discussions were productive, focusing on avenues to enhance collaboration and increase the number of Indian tourists visiting the Maldives.
High Commissioner of India to the Maldives Munu Mahawar met with Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal to discuss tourism promotion and strengthening ties in the tourism sector.
Regarding the meeting held at the Tourism Ministry, Minister Faisal told Mihaaru News that the meeting was very productive, focusing on avenues to enhance collaboration and increase the number of Indian tourists visiting the Maldives. He also highlighted the strong relations between the two countries.
“There is also a visit to India soon to further discuss opportunities to increase the number of tourists coming to the Maldives,” Minister Faisal said.
The Minister and High Commissioner Mahawar discussed conducting special activities aimed at boosting tourist arrivals from India.
Last year, India had the highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives, with more than 200,000 visitors. However, this year, the number of Indian tourists has declined, placing India sixth on the list top 10 list of tourism source markets.
The Ministry is also working with the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) to strengthen tourism promotion efforts.
