American Center of Maldives (ACM) conducted a clean-up programme with scouts from Majeediyya School on Friday.
The Managing Director of Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), Adam Mohamed, joined in the activities that took place on Friday.
While 114 volunteers joined the event held on March 1, most of the participants were students.
Students from Iskandhar School, Hiriya School, Aminiya school, Ghiyasuddin International School and Maldives National University (MNU) took part.
Friday's initiative was aimed to clean the Maafannu ward industrial zone in the capital.
According to United States Embassy's Public Affairs Specialist Aminath Shizleen, 307kg of trash was collected in the two-hour span. She articulated that, from the trash collected, the vast majority was plastic bottles. However, general waste was greater in terms of weight.
American Center stated that public and top officials of the government greatly encouraged the cleanup activities that are taking place.
The cleanup activities take place consecutively every Friday.
