Fire hydrants are being installed five years after initial settlements.
Housing Development Corporation (HDC) started installing fire hydrant systems in Hulhumalé today, five years after people started settling in the Malé City district.
In a post on social media, HDC said that that the water network systems are being installed to make Hulhumalé a safer place in the event of fires.
Hulhumalé, which is entirely an artificially created island, was initially designed to have fire hydrants in place. However, the hydrants were never installed until now.
Although the project has now started, little information is available, including how many systems will be installed.
Hulhumalé Phase 1 already has some fire hydrant systems installed. Although funding has been secured to place additional systems, the project has been halted due to various reasons.
