City council signs an agreement with Animal Welfare Ministry to develop a pet care facility. Council says the cat shelter will be built within next month and services will commence.
In order to resolve the issue of the growing stray cat population in the Male' Region, Male' City Council and Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare have signed an agreement today on developing a cat shelter.
The agreement for a temporary shelter was signed by Male' City Mayor, Adam Azim and State Minister of Animal Welfare Ministry, Hussein Ismail.
A land plot of 5000 square meters has been selected for the establishment of the facility and the concluded project will see a special hotel, park and store developed for the purpose of pet care.
City council says that they will receive the land plot very soon and the facility will be built within the next month with services commencing upon completion.
“The shelter also has doctors available. We will work with relevant organizations to remove the cats from the streets and transfer them to the shelter. The finished facility will accommodate birds as well,” City Council said.
The building and management of the cat shelter will be supervised by the Council.
