Former Chief of Defence Force Abdul Raheem to be appointed as Ambassador to Turkey

The government has decided to appoint retired Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef as the Maldives' first Ambassador to Turkey.

The government has decided to appoint retired Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef as the Maldives' first Ambassador to Turkey.

Abdul Raheem retired on April 17, once he neared crossing the maximum age allowed for serving as Chief. As per the Armed Forces Act, the maximum age allowed for an individual filling the post of Chief of Defence Force is 60 years.

Having served in MNDF for 39 years, Abdul Raheem has extensive experience in the field.

The current government has established close ties with Turkey. Under these new relations, Maldives has newly opened an embassy in Turkey this February 13th.

The President's first official visit after assuming office was also made to Turkey.
