The powerhouse - Annex 2 - is located in Hulhumale' Phase 2.
The powerhouse is built on a land of 48,000 sqft, and was completed by STELCO staff within just nine days.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony last night, Fahmy recognized the efforts of the STELCO team, commending them for completing the work so swiftly in the spirit of serving the public.
Fahmy said that with schools and government offices closed during the last ten days of Ramadan, electricity capacity is not expected to rise this Ramadan.
However, usage may peak in the warm season that will follow Ramadan, he said, which is what STELCO is now preparing for.
STELCO assured that even in the instance of a power cut, they would work towards restoring electricity services at the earliest.
The Annex 2 powerhouse in Hulhumale' will house 12 generator sets of 1.6 megawatts each. Seven of these have been commissioned and are in use now, with the remaining five to be taken there within the month of Ramadan, ready for use by the end of the month.
