President Muizzu extends special invitation to film Bollywood movies in Maldives

President Muizzu held a special event in Mumbai with Bollywood celebrities, and invited them to visit the Maldives, shoot movies and promote the country's tourism.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu invited India's Hindi film industry, Bollywood, to film movies in the Maldives.

The invitation was extended at a special Tourism and Trade promotion event held in Mumbai as part of his ongoing state visit to India. Speaking at the event, held at the Taj Mahal Palace, he said that, "the Bollywood industry can use the Maldives' natural beauty as their preferred place to setup and produce their films."

"So, I welcome the Bollywood industry to choose Maldives for film tourism," he added.

The President went on to say that nearly 100,000 Indian tourists have visited Maldives and that this is an impressive testament to the growing connection between our two countries. Highlighting that India is among the top 10 source markets for the country, President Muizzu said that the two countries have potential to reach even "greater heights, unlocking new possibilities that benefit both nations."

Highlighting that Maldives Maldives has proudly held the title of the World’s Leading Destination for four consecutive years, he attributed the success to the trust that travelers from all corners of the globe continue to place in the nation.

"Our pristine beaches, luxurious resorts, and unmatched hospitality have been the cornerstone of our success and India has been a key partner in this journey. For many Indian travelers, the Maldives has become not just a destination, but a haven where they can unwind, recharge, and create cherished memories," he said.

He went on to say that given that Indian travellers are increasingly seeking new and diverse experiences, the country is ready to meet this demand with niche segments such as ecotourism, wellness tourism, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) tourism and film tourism.

President Muizzu also held a special event with some Bollywood stars in Mumbai, to promote Maldives' tourism. Big names of the industry such as Shilpa Shetty, Arbaaz Khan and his makeup artist wife Shura Khan, Sunny Kaushal as well as Sonakshi Sinha, her husband and actor Zaheer Iqbal and Karishma Kapoor were among those who attended the event.

All, except Karishma, have visited Maldives in the past and expressed their love for the country.

President Muizzu, speaking with the celebrities, invited them to visit Maldives and promote the country to their fans.
